Women ARE the Sequel

I actually filmed an entire video to share about this painting and the meaning behind her name, but a few things just weren’t quite right. Namely, I had a hard time capturing her beauty. Just like the head nun in “The Sound of Music” wondered how to contain Maria (how do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?), I just couldn’t get the video to accurately describe the pure ENERGY of this piece. Maybe my written words will suffice…

I feel like finally women are having their day in the sun. We have worked for this for quite some time. The feminist movement, like all entities that evolve in consciousness, has had some awkward years. My own personal journey of remembering my power is a tiny microcosm of the bigger female picture… I allowed myself to be abused and subsequently people-pleased myself into a stupor, I woke up from said stupor with a rage that could not be contained, and then after a lot of self-reflection I settled into the process of remembering and honoring my own inner wisdom. Now I do my best to stay in alignment with my own truth, sharing my wisdom when asked and making this world a better place with grace, love, and some REALLY clear boundaries.

Not ironically, the same week I painted this abstract, I sold TWO Mary Magdalene paintings. She was by far the most popular portrait in my sale, and the symbolism and timing of this is not lost on me. Mary, a woman who was both centered in love AND strong enough to stand confidently among men, shared freely the concept that we all have everything we need within us already. We do not need to seek validation or approval or redemption from any outside source, especially if that source is claiming to be the only path to salvation. There is no salvation. We are all inherently worthy of love, made of love, and divine. We just need to REMEMBER that Truth.

I woke up one morning and saw this painting in my mind. As are all of my paintings, it is vastly different than my original vision. But the energy is the same. It is feminine energy unleashed. It is Grace, Compassion, and Deep Wisdom expressed in authentic and unbridled color. It is the dawn of a new and better day for us all.

In Hamilton, Angelica sings “We hold these truth to be self evident, that all men are created equal. And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, I’mma compel him to include women in the sequel!”

I’m taking it one step further. Women ARE the sequel.

This painting is a giant, fantastic 48x60” of acrylic color on canvas, ready to energize your home. And as always, I’d love to hear from you!
