My beef with crows…
I have a history with crows… namely, I had some serious beef at one point in my life with a person who loved crows, therefore I did NOT love crows. At all. For many, many years the sight of a crow was like pointy, sharp crow fingers down a chalkboard. Cringe worthy. But that was a while back, seemingly another lifetime ago. I have softened with age, wisdom, and a lot of internal work. So when crow showed up on my walk last week, and in my meditation the day after, and then one day later FOUR crows battled a hawk mid-air above my street, I decided it was time to bury the old associations and get to know this magical creature with fresh eyes. Here is the art, and the message…
Mama Crow and her red thread
We’ll save the best for last (the crow) and start with the sacred geometry behind her.
Golden Pentagon Sacred Geometry: The pentagon (a five sided shape) contains a pentaGRAM (a five pointed star), all contained with in a circle. I saw this on my walk, and then searched the interwebs for the meaning. The pentagon represents balance, harmony, and spiritual mastery, while the star inside (pentagram) represents the five elements of air, fire, water, earth, and spirit. The Golden Ratio. These are the fundamental building blocks of the Universe, especially in shamanic practices. The Golden Ratio is the math of nature… think Fibonacci sequence and the spiral patterns we see in plants, shells, etc. I think the message here is that nature (including humans) exists in perfect balance and harmony unless we fuck with it. So how can we just chill already? We are really the only species that consistently and, to our detriment, goes against our nature (I’m looking at you, hustle culture). So here is the invitation: stop fucking with it. 😂 Slow down. Go for a walk. Let go of the pushing and lean into the allowing. Listen. Meditate. Be ok with being bored. Our culture has us addicted to fast hits of dopamine and a pace that is not sustainable. So the message here is to slow down to nature’s speed. I recently started leaving my phone at home when I go for my walks, and I walk for the sake of walking, not for exercise. It’s amazing what I’ve noticed once I let go of the agenda and the need to be connected all the time with my phone. Speaking of connection…
The Red Thread: In East Asian folklore, there is something called the Red Thread of Fate. This red thread is said to connect people who are destined to be together, either through a romantic relationship or a parent-child relationship. In Jewish folk custom, a red string around the wrist wards off bad luck. So this red thread, broken, in the crow’s beak could be an omen of good luck, or symbolize the breaking of a connection that was no longer serving the crow. Imma go with BOTH. Here’s why…
I believe that so many of us are working through old limiting beliefs. I know I sure am. Back in January I had a reading with an incredible woman who accessed my Akashic Records (the book of all my lives, including this one). According to her, we have soul themes (issues) that we are all working through and have been working through over multiple lifetimes. She was able to tap into some of mine, and I have been actively working on breaking old patterns that have kept me tethered. Much like this crow, I have been cutting cords to old stories and limiting beliefs, and actively creating new ones that are more truthful and authentic. The red thread of fate may have connected us, but I get to choose for how long. If that connection no longer serves me, I have the power to break it. Then I can decide how to move forward with a new, healthier connection or walk away. I’m not sure this results in good luck, but it has certainly resulted in deep peace and better relationships, both with myself and with others. The invitation here is to honor yourself first, and let go of the concept of “fate” or “duty” to anyone, anything, or any story that disempowers you.
And lastly, the Crow: For animal interpretations, I go to my trusty “Animal Spirit Guides” book by Steven D. Farmer. With all of my pre-conceived ideas about crow, I did not want to leave this one up to my own interpretation. It would have been, ah-hem, jaded. So according to my guide book, when crow shows up it means big changes are coming (powerful manifestations), and to pay attention to the signs around you for guidance. This is the message of “just sit back, relax, and trust”. You’ve already put in the work, so it’s time to let it marinade for a bit. Just like the Pentagon and Pentagram, I feel like this represents a call to slow down. Lay down the hustle and just breathe. It will feel awkward at first, for sure. But breaking that connection to constant action and quick fixes and taking the time to just notice the world around you IS the medicine you need. You don’t need more doing. You need to just BE. I also feel feminine energy with this crow, so there is an element of “tend to your nest”. The invitation here is to nurture yourself and your home crew. I’ve been spending time on the couch drinking my morning coffee, cuddled with the puppies and kitties. It’s been lovely.
This piece of art and reading was a-la-carte… meaning it just came from the ethers. I hope that it has landed for you as it did for me. If you feel this art is for you, Mama Crow is available to purchase. Just reach out and we’ll make it happen!
If you’d like your own personal Intuitive Art reading, let’s talk… I’ve had a ton of fun sitting with folks, chatting about how awesome they are and how great they are doing managing this thing called life. And as always, I love you.
With love,
Peyton
